Get smart about ELDs with Northern BI’s personalized training

The Canadian ELD (electronic logging device) mandate is fast approaching, and we’re all feeling the pressure. On January 1, 2023, federally regulated motor carriers will be expected to track their drivers’ HOS (hours of service) using an ELD. That means saying goodbye to paper logs for a lot of trucking companies. Adding more fuel to the fire is the Transport Minister’s recent 12-month “phased-in” ELD enforcement announcement. If you find yourself asking more questions, you’re not alone. So, how can you prepare your fleet for the ELD mandate? It all starts with getting smart about ELDs with Northern BI’s personalized training.
Our personal touch to ELD training
At Northern BI, we offer industry-leading Geotab ELD products and software, but that’s not all. Our clients also have access to limitless customized training and support for fleet operators and drivers – all free of charge. Meet one of our ELD training rock stars
Let us introduce you to NBI rock star and customer success manager, Stephanie Morris. With four years of Geotab software and troubleshooting experience under her belt, she’s an ELD wizard – although she’ll never ever admit it. While her professional background spans from French language training to sociology and human resources, Stephanie’s no stranger to customer relations. Whether it’s drivers, fleet managers or concerned business owners, she’s just about heard it all.
“My approach to ELD training is to place my clients at ease,” she says. “Most of my clients feel apprehensive about the new ELD technology – especially the older goats like me,” she laughs. “I let them know: if I can do it, you can too. They know I care and that creates a great rapport.”
There’s always lots of huffing and puffing until…
With over 140 ELD customers to train and manage, Stephanie’s very aware of the mandate’s impact on her clients’ business operations. “Being somewhat technologically challenged, I understand the stress and the struggle,” she says. “Whenever I start a training demo, there’s always lots of huffing and puffing, but once they see how much time they’ll save by using ELDs, whether it’s for DVIR, IFTA or fleet tracking, they quickly change their tune.”
Training, training and more training
When it comes to implementing any new product, service or policy, communication is always key. After that, it’s “training, training, training.” Through her countless hours of ELD rollouts, Stephanie’s discovered that people learn best from each other. “I always say my clients make me smarter. I value their knowledge because they bring so much industry experience to the table. Once a couple of them understand the benefits of ELD, it’s a lot easier to get everyone else’s buy-in.” After a few short demos, fleet managers and drivers are surprised to learn all the great ways ELDs can improve their businesses. “They’re always blown away,” Stephanie comments. “They can’t believe the Geotab Drive Mobile App is free with the software and how expandable the platform is.”
