Canadian ELD Mandate enforcement delayed

Published on March 8, 2022

On March 7, 2022, the CCMTA (Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators) announced that full enforcement of the Canadian Federal ELD Regulation will be delayed until January 1, 2023. The full enforcement was set to take effect on June 12, 2022; however, not enough time has been given to the industry to select and implement a certified ELD into their fleets. This does not in any way delay Geotab’s ELD certification timeline with the CSA.

The ELD mandate delay does not change the necessity to become ELD compliant. Geotab is working diligently with the CSA and is confident they will acquire ELD certification in the coming weeks. Northern BI will continue to provide our clients with updates from Geotab as they become available. As a reminder, Geotab plans to certify the following devices: (GO7, GO8, GO9), iOS, and Android hardware, as well as the variable and the fixed start of day times.

While we are starting to see improvements in the supply chain, there is still an ongoing semiconductor shortage. Our recommendation is to start your ELD implementation as soon as possible. Change management takes time and working with a good partner is key to implementing a successful ELD solution. At Northern BI, we deliver specialized ELD training to fleet managers, administrators, and drivers. In some cases, it can take upwards of six months for personnel to adopt the new technology.

Contact Northern BI today to learn more about our Geotab ELD solution for your fleet.
